In Vigo County School Nurses are assigned specific schools. The Nurse can be reached through their assigned school or you can call their main office 462-4465 or 462-4409. Also, there is a health assistant trained in first Aid and CPR, present in every building when students are in session. All Vigo County School Nurses are Registered Nurses licensed by the State of Indiana to practice nursing.
The school nurses participate in mandatory vision, modified clinical technique vision screening, and immunization review and recording immunizations and health concerns. They also present AIDS, Universal precautions, and OSHA standards in-services. Diabetes and other health related in-services are conducted for employees as needed. They conduct Hepatitis B immunization clinics to comply with OSHA regulations and other immunization clinics as needs arise. Communicable disease evaluation and referral is conducted as needed. Indiana State board of health Regulations and guidelines are followed.
Collaboration with community agencies and parents is an integral part of school nurse activities. Referrals for health related needs are made to various community agencies, health disciplines, physicians and families. The goal is to promote, maintain and deliver optimum health services to Vigo County School students and staff. Please contact your child’s school nurse if you have questions or concerns regarding your child.
